This charming novel by Frances Burney is one that inspired the later works of Jane Austen and Thomas Hardy. It is a portrait of  18th century London society and is filled with historical facts about the city.

What We’re Reading: Jackie’s Showjumping Suprise

Written by British children’s author Judith M. Berrisford, the Jackie series features stories of a little girl and adventures with her pony. My favorite is Jackie’s Showjumping Suprise in which a legendary showjumper moves in next door to Jackie and opens up a riding school. Although the books are out of print, you can find them used on various sites on the internet. If your a pony person, you’ll love them.
