Iconic British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has died. The 40-year-old, who was due to show his latest collection in Paris next month, was found at his London home. Known to his family as Lee, his company released a statement saying: “On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family. Lee’s family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.”

Motto For 2010

Some how I think this Work Hard and Be Kind slogan applies just as aptly to 2010 as  Keep Calm and Carry On did to the WWII era…

Supermodel Kate Moss‘ longtime boyfriend Jamie Hince, guitarist from the Kills, apparently proposed to her over the weekend on her 36th birthday. Hince supposedly flew out to Mustique on Saturday where Kate was doing a photo shoot and presented her with a diamond ring he picked out with the help of friend Sir Philip Green. Congrats!!

It was also recently announced that Kate will be designing a signature line of bags for the French handbag company Longchamp, for whom she has been the face for the past four years. Kate has a longterm contract to design two collections a year, the first of which will arrive in stores February 11.

Pieces from Princess Grace of Monaco’s wardrobe will go on display at the V&A in the spring of 2010 from the 16 April – 26 September.

The spectacular wardrobe of Grace Kelly will be on display at the V&A. Tracing the evolution of her style from her days as one of Hollywoods most popular actresses in the 1950s and as Princess Grace of Monaco, the display will present over 50 of Grace Kelly’s outfits together with hats, jewellery and the original Hermès Kelly bag. Dresses from her films, including High Society, will be shown as well as the gown she wore to accept her Oscar award in 1955. These will be accompanied by film clips and posters, photographs and her Oscar statuette. The display will also include the lace ensemble worn by Grace Kelly for her civil marriage ceremony to Prince Rainier in 1956 and 35 haute couture gowns from the 1960s and 70s by her favourite couturiers Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Yves St Laurent.

Psst DuJour… Spring 2010 Ad Campaigns

06 November 2009

psstdujouromgphone

It’s casting season for those Spring 2010 advertising campaigns!

*Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana tweeted earlier today about her work with Roberto Cavalli, “Exciting news! I shot the new Cavalli campaign with Carolyn Murphy. The campaign was shot by Steven Meisel.” …

*While WWD recently reported that Dutch It-Model Lara Stone will be the new face of Louis Vuitton, @LiveFashionWeek hit the Twitter yesterday saying that Daisy Lowe is shooting their new campaign in Miami. (I guess this means no more Madge then?)

*And finally, Donatella has hired Rolling Stone offspring Georgia Jagger to be the new face Versace, (for a very large sum reportedly) despite recent lay offs at the Italian fashion house. Donatella recently stated that she ran the business under the influence of cocaine so current economic woes should be no problem.

14 October 2009

After waves of online controversy spread over a ridiculously photoshopped Ralph Lauren ad featuring one of their long time faces, French model Filippa Hamilton, released in Japan surfaced, the model has come forward and said that she was fired by the All-American lifestyle brand in April for being too fat. 23-year-old Hamilton said earlier today, “They fired me because they said I was overweight and I couldn’t fit in their clothes anymore.”

Earlier this month when Ralph Lauren tried to sue websites who had posted the photoshopped ad said, “For over 42 years we have built a brand based on quality and integrity. After further investigation, we have learned that we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman’s body. We have addressed the problem and going forward will take every precaution to ensure that the caliber of our artwork represents our brand appropriately.”

Last night they said Hamilton was a “beautiful and healthy” woman, but their relationship had ended ”as a result of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us.”
