The opening of the 2013 Costume Institute exhibition is just days away! If you haven’t read all about it already . . .

The Met’s spring 2013 Costume Institute exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, will examine punk’s impact on high fashion from the movement’s birth in the early 1970s through its continuing influence today. Featuring approximately one hundred designs for men and women, the exhibition will include original punk garments and recent, directional fashion to illustrate how haute couture and ready-to-wear borrow punk’s visual symbols.

Focusing on the relationship between the punk concept of “do-it-yourself” and the couture concept of “made-to-measure,” the seven galleries will be organized around the materials, techniques, and embellishments associated with the anti-establishment style. Themes will include New York and London, which will tell punk’s origin story as a tale of two cities, followed by Clothes for Heroes and four manifestations of the D.I.Y. aesthetic—Hardware, Bricolage, Graffiti and Agitprop, and Destroy.

Presented as an immersive multimedia, multisensory experience, the clothes will be animated with period music videos and soundscaping audio techniques. See MetMuseum.org for additional information.

Having previously worked as the Interior Design Editor for a prominent homes magazine, decorator Appley Hoare later began her retail business with a market stall in Australia. RIP IT UP AND START AGAIN is a selected body of work by Brendan Lott. The artist and former newsstand owner had an idea to create one collage a day with the magazines that surrounded him. The project spanned for exactly one year, resulting 365 collages. Each collage is an seemingly effortless construction of popular culture, art, design, and fashion. The work is spirited, reflecting Lott’s almost hallucinatory imagination and playful style. The collages are visually rich, provocative, and sensual. These selections focus on the male gender with subjects ranging from artist Ai Weiwei, to comedian David Williams, to a young Stevie Wonder, and others. RIP IT UP AND START AGAIN is curated by Yaoska Davila and will be on view at TENOVERSIX, the popular Melrose Avenue fashion boutique, from April 6 – May 4.

Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece is the daughter of Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, the children’s clothing designer, and Prince Pavlos of Greece. Earlier this year she made a splash accompanying her mother to the opening of the Valentino retrospective at Somerset House, where the New York Times later noted that the glamorous teenager now gets to wear mother’s collection of the designer’s pieces. In 2011 Jeep  teamed up with the French design studio, Style & Design, to create two concept nautical-themed Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models, presented at Salon Nautique de Paris (Paris Nautical Show). The Jeep Wrangler Nautic Blanche’s design is inspired by a sailboat and features an all-white exterior with chrome 20 inch wheels and chrome grill, door handles, gas cap, and trunk hinges. The car also comes with a small tent for shade and a pair of white canvas chairs and was made in black “Nautic Noir” too.
