Brooklyn based Marais USA designers Catherine Chen and Haley Boyd both attended Parsons School of Design and founded their label in 2007 with the idea of creating styles that were “simple, versatile, essential” and “that don’t break the bank”. Holly Fulton S/S 2010

RDuJour loves Holly Fulton’s spring-summer 2010 collection. Inspired by Eduardo Paolozzi’s 1964 work Wittgenstein in New York and “the women who populate the city take their cue from the ice cool exterior of Jeanne Moreau in the Bride Wore Black“, Fulton produced a series of graphic shift dresses, printed blouses paired with skinny pants, and retro style accessories such as chunky bracelets and envelope clutches.
“Pop Art Skyscrapers have been abstracted and translated into bold hand-drawn graphic prints, with Holly’s signature embellishment in Perspex, Swarovski crystal and metal adorning necklines and covering mini-dresses to create the feel of one giant collaged form of jewellery. Monochrome is essential to the colour palette this season, whilst flashes of acid yellow, bright turquoise and orange are contrasted against surface decoration. Luxury hand cut-out patent leather, habotai silk and lightweight wool are layered with printed silk jersey and accessorized with Holly’s statement necklaces to complete the look.” Visit HollyFulton.com for more.
Nigel Cabourn

Safari up boys! Nigel Cabourn has worked in the fashion industry for over forty years, but his clothing has little in common with most people’s concept of the word fashion. He is influenced not by trends but a longstanding passion for vintage clothing, fabric and details. These elements have formed the basis for much of his output over the years and continue to be a vital part of his collection today. Nigel Cabourn was a student at Northumbria University from 1967-1971 and he started his own label while still in his final year and against all advice stayed in the North of England, another source of inspiration over the years. This cold, windy location has certainly influenced him and he is known to be one of a few true outerwear specialists. Nigel has collected vintage clothing for over 30 years and has an archive of over 4,000 pieces, including salvaged British Military uniforms and workwear and a trove of exploration garments unearthed from all corners of the globe. It is this ever increasing vintage collection that is the cornerstone of each collection, not a response to a particular trend or general demand. Each collection has a real story, sense of history and integrity underpinned by the highest level of quality. Visit Cabourn.com for more information.
dace Fall 2009 Lookbook

RDuJour is absolutely mad about horses, so when I first saw dace’s lookbook for their Fall 2009 collection my heart fluttered. I love these photographs and way they styled the collection around this equestrian theme but the clothes don’t look too just off the trails. dace is a Canadian label launched in 2002 by designer Dace Moore, originally from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia and now based in Vancouver. Visit dace.ca to go shopping.
Loft Design By

RDuJour j’adores the French chain boutique Loft Design By, particularly (aside from the clothes!) the bit of their manifesto that says “elegance comes from the heart, not the pocket”. Visit LoftDesignBy.com to shop these looks.
