GANG OF FOUR Like many good new wavish bands of the 80s these boys are English lads from Leeds who were together from 1977-1984 and specialized in the post-punk alt sounds. Members Jon King, Andy Gill, Dave Allen, and Hugo Burnham reunited in 2004. Fans include Sofia Coppola who mixed the Gang for her latest film Marie Antoinette.

THE (ENGLISH) BEATFormed in Birmingham, England in 1978 the Beat mixes the sounds of pop and ska with punk, soul, reggae. The multi-race sextet made the charts in the early 80s with hits like Mirror In the Bathroom, Save It For Later and I Confess.

Originally formed as Joy Division in 1978 the band later became the popular new wave group New Order in 1980 when the lead singer of Joy Division, Ian Curtis, killed himself. New Order had several hits during the 80s, most memorably Blue Monday.The story of both bands is chronicled in the film 24 Hour Party People, a film about Tony Wilson, the man who discovered them and is also credited with the discovery of the Sex Pistols.
