Prince Harry Polo in New York
Prince Harry’s tour of New York last week included participating in the 2009 Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic at Governors Island (located .5 mile from the southern tip of Manhattan). The match was played to raise money for Prince Harry’s charity Sentebale which raises money for impoverished children in Africa (Harry founded the charity with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho). Harry’s team, also called Sentebale, defeated the Black Watch team 6-5 with the Prince assisting in the final goal. Black Watch frequently plays in the Hamptons and team member Nacho Figueres is a Ralph Lauren model.
Among the celebrity guests that turned out for the match were Chloe Sevigny, Marc Jacobs and pal Madonna, a newly brunette Kate Hudson, models Hilary Rhoda and Alek Wek, as well as socialite Byrdie Bell. Continue reading for additional photos.
Burberry Lights Up NYC
Yesterday, May 28, was ‘Burberry Day’ in New York… ‘Burberry Day’ was officially designated by Mayor Bloomberg to celebrate the opening of Burberry America’s new 60,000 square foot head quarters at 444 Madison Avenue. To mark their new massive digs, which will also contain two new stores flanking the office space, Burberry has launched a massive skyline sign atop the building that is one of only six others in the city. (In other Burberry news, Christopher Bailey has said that the company will return its Prorsum show to London Fashion Week this year to celebrate its 25th anniversary after eight years of showing in Milan.)
Of course accompanying that great sign was a large fete, and celebrity guests included the always elegant Clare Danes and her finacee Hugh Dancy, Penn Badgley and Blake Lively, Orlando Bloom sans Miranda Kerr, Julia Restion-Roitfeld, Byrdie Bell, Molly Sims, Lily Donaldson, Helena Christensen, and others.
