The Secret World of Haute Couture
Your Friday night entertainment is coming from RDuJour once again. The Secret World of Haute Couture is recent BBC documentary that is described by the channel as “Margy Kinmonth meets millionaire customers and world-famous designers as she explores the anachronistic but little-explained pocket of the fashion industry known as haute couture.” The film is fun because socialites like Daphne Guinness, Becca Cason Thrash, Susan Gutfreund, Betsey Bloomingdale, and my favorite, Carroll Petrie, show off selections of their wardrobes and give their thoughts on buying this form of art work. The only draw back is Kinmonth’s tendency to refer to the haute couture industry as an “exclusive club” and the women who buy couture as “club members” as if there is some sort of cheesy Virgin Atlantic premier lounge access that comes with getting piece of clothing custom made.
