A rare pair of armchairs by George Bullock, the design attributed to Richard Bridgens The ebonised backs inlaid with mouldings in holly with applied paterae surmounted with panels of premier and contrapartie marquetry. Above the square seat again veneered with premier and contrapartie over turned legs connected by a turned stretcher.

The design of these chairs can confidently be attributed to the workshops of George Bullock and the design to Richard Bridgens, who was a key participant in George Bullock’s business until 1838. A similar pair of chairs designed by Bridgens and featured in the Wilkinson Tracings can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the second in the City Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham. English, circa 1817, 51”(129.5cm) high 27”(68.5cm) wide 26 ½”(67.5cm) deep.
