Eating London: NAPKET

07/13/2008 (5:00 am)

Napket is a newish cafe that opened at Vigo Street in May (other locations include Kings Road and Brook Street) where we had an A+ experience. Decorated by Peter Van Hooreweghe, each location has a unique look and making this chain very different from your average salad bar and delicatessen. Although its a tad “Footballers Wives” we thought the gilt trimmed black velvet chairs and large crystal chandeliers (vintage, from Italy) brought some glamor to our greens and tomatoes. Details are what make Napket special, something that is continually apparent in things such as the cutlery, which are still plastic but also custom designed (and pretty). In addition to the sort of classic chichi being exerted here there are also modern touches throughout Napket, like Ipods at the single seats bar and the electronic queue tickets.

Most importantly, however, the food was very good. You can do Napket a few ways, pick up one of their pre-made dishes (sandwiches, salads, pastas), or you can queue up for the salad bar in which you get to mix your own salad, selecting from six different types of greens and numerous vegetables, nuts, etc. Soups, desserts, smoothies, and freshly squeezed juices are also on the menu, completing the gourmet selection. Our meal was a salad, diet coke, and bottle of water, and totaled to about £6.00. Napket is for the savvy diner, who cares about their scene and surroundings but also wants affordable, good food.
