- …Began in December of 1983 with the wedding of Princess Caroline of Monaco to Italian industrialist Stefano Casiraghi

- Stefano was then killed in a boating accident in 1990. Caroline raised her children in a low key atmosphere away from the spotlight in Monaco, and eventually carried on a relationship with French actor Vincent Lindon.

- In 1999 Caroline married Ernst August, Prince of Hanover, the man Princess Grace supposedly wanted her to marry as a young woman.

- Ernst had two children from a previous marriage to Swiss chocolate heiress Chantal Hochuli, Prince Ernst August of Hanover (b. July 19 1983, current boyfriend of Margherita Missoni) and Prince Christian of Hanover (b. June 1 1985).

- In 2005 Ernst Sr. handed over the keys of Marienburg Castle (near Hanover, in northern Germany), a portion of his estate that was in disrepair. The princes then hired Sothebys to auction off some of the castle’s contents in order to save it.

- Later in July of 1999 Caroline and Ernst had a daughter, Alexandra.
