Her family was left homeless after WWII and Veruschka went on to study art in Hamburg and Florence. In Florence she met photographer Ugo Mulas and was soon introduced to Eileen Ford of the Ford Modeling Agency. Initially she received few bookings so Eileen sent her back to Munich and told people she was Russian. Under the name Veruschka a mystique surrounded the Countess and she soon changed the face of fashion. In 1966 Veruschka starred in the legendary Michelangelo Antonioni film Blow Up.
